Seven Smart Ways to Save When Buying Your Wedding Gown
By Kathleen Mary
Borrowing or renting a wedding gown will always be the easiest way to save money on your bridal attire. But most brides want a brand new gown that reflect their taste in bridal fashion and is the most flattering to their body type. Then how do you save money when most of the wedding gowns, made by popular designers such as: Jasmine, Jessica McClintock, Maggie Sottero, Monique L'Huillier, Mori Lee, and Vera Wang, sell for thousands of dollars? Here are seven smart ways you can save money and get the wedding gown of your dreams:
• Shop on a weekday or night when you can have the undivided attention of the salesclerk. Make your budget needs known and don't be talked into trying on any gowns over your limit.
• Wedding gowns tend to run one size smaller. Try on gowns in your size and only one size larger. If there is not a good selection in those two sizes, find a larger retailer to find a wider variety of styles.
• Bring in the shoes that you will be wearing at your wedding. Selecting a gown that is the correct length will save you hundreds of dollars in alterations and time lost in extra fittings.
• Find out if bustling is included in the price of the gown. If not, you may have the gown bustled for less money by your favorite seamstress.
• Don't buy a tight gown thinking you will lose 10 pounds by the wedding. If you do lose weight, it will be a lot cheaper and less noticeable to take in the side seams instead of letting them out.
• Make sure you are measured with a cloth tape and find out if the gowns are "made to order." If so, the wedding gown should fit you perfectly without the need for costly alterations.
• Ask for group discounts. If you purchase your wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses from the same boutique, will they give you a discount? Or, if you choose your wedding gown, bridal tiara, veil and accessories, will they give you an additional 15% off the entire purchase?
Asking for a little extra, especially from individually owned bridal salons, can do no harm and may help you stay within your wedding budget
